3 ways you sabotage yourself while thinking you are being smart

Seminar

1 Compare yourself to others. Yes, it is a natural thing to do yet can be the most destructive habit you can have. There are 2 ways people do this.

One, they compare themselves to those who are not as successful so they feel good about themselves. This usually leads to just feeling good about where you are and then doing nothing.

Two, they compare themselves to people more successful than they are to try and motivate themselves. This usually leads to frustration because you are not where they are.

When you constantly compare yourself to other people you are taking time away from yourself and the things you need to do in order to be successful.

Focus on where you are NOW and then what the next step you need to take in order to make progress.

2 Set stupid and unrealistic goals. Goals are great and it feels good when you actually achieve them. So many people make goals that there is no way to achieve. No, you are not going to lose 10 pounds in a week. You are not going to get 20 hours of work done in 3 hours. No, you are not going to master a skill in a day.

When you do that you set yourself up to fail. You get an artificial sense of accomplishment because you set an amazing goal. Then when you never get there you can end up deflated. So you make another amazing goal that you will never hit.

I use the 5% rule. My goal is to do 5% better than I did last week. In 14 weeks you will have improved 100%

3 Waiting to find your purpose/vision/joy/reason… blah blah blah. This idea that going on a quest to find the meaning of your life so you can then follow it and be successful is BS. Most people end up having that meaning be being on a quest to find the meaning.

The result is they do nothing since they think they need to find their purpose/meaning/joy… blah blah.

Take ANY step NOW. Taking the wrong step is better than taking the PERFECT step… Mainly because there is no perfect step 🙂
