12 Ways Waiters Can Get Better Tips- and how that applies to your business

Seminar

We had someone on the list asking how to get better tips since they wait tables.

These are concepts that are good for all kinds of persuasion

The basics are these.

I am going to assume that there is already good food and good service.

The first 30 seconds are crucial. In the first 30 you need to:

-Assess the customer- Mood, playfulness, new customer

-Calibrate to what they want- are they interactive or do they want to be left alone?

-Get an introductory anchor

-ALWAYS tell them your name while firing the good anchor.

-Anchor every good response.

-Position yourself as their equal, not their slave.

-Every time you deliver something to the table, fire the good anchor.

-After taking their order remind them of your NAME and fire the good anchor.

-Dropping off the check. Too many servers do this like it is a drive-by shooting. They drop the check, say that they can take this when the customer is ready and then run away while tossing a mint at you.

-Instead pre-close the check. Ask if they are ready for their check while firing the good anchor. When you drop it off fire the good anchor again and ask them how they liked the food? Again while firing the good anchor.

So many servers are afraid to ask that one simple question. Solve the problem if they had one. Blaming the cooks does not solve the problem BTW

-Thank them for coming in, while firing the good anchor, and tell them you will be back in a few minutes.

-Always fire an exit anchor. So many servers get their tip and never even bother saying F you. Your service has not ended until they are OUT of the place.

Something like ” See you next time” while firing the good anchor.

Now… how many other businesses and situations can you see this working in?
